I put my finger on the globe and spin the equator beneath my fingertip eyes half shut
‘til it lands on a smog-strangled city I imagine your breath carried across the pacific winds back to this hometown of you & your mother & hers & all the stories you whisper to keep it remembered— stretch your breath across the space between a womb’s torn edges and grooves worn deep by years of prayers to any god that will listen-- wrap it all around the wet body of a teenager on a bathroom floor, crumpled, not really, but half-broken half-here half-not shield it hold it love it heal it at least as best you can, please mom, and thank you. Kaitlyn Tchang is a 17-year-old writer from the Bay Area, California. She has loved writing for as long as she can remember and is constantly pushing herself to try new genres. She recently attended the Kenyon Young Writers Workshop and has had her work recognized by The New York Times and Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Comments are closed.
